Boxing
The Club trains twice a week in St. Maelruains Hall and have all the gym equipment needed to get you started. The Boxing Club has been in existence for 6 years and has grown from strength to strength each year. Its membership is currently at around 20 people some of whom use the club to train and get fit while others use it to compete. The club is mainly geared for novices who compete at the Junior Intervarsity but also caters for more experienced boxers who can compete at the Senior Intervarsity and British and Irish Championships.
We have had a lot of success at these championships recently culminating in one of our boxers winning the British and Irish Colleges Middleweight and also Light-Heavyweight Open Class Championships. The Club were host to the Novice Intervarsity two years ago in the National Stadium which had by far the biggest entry in the long history of the event. The Club also hosts a Novice Invitational each semester to give its members some experience before being selected to represent the College. The club will be without some of our more senior boxers this year and we are looking for new members to come along and bring the club on to the next level.
Mick Dowling, Irish Boxing Olympian, is the Club coach and we welcome all students male or female to come and train with us.
