1. Introduction
A seminar outlining the Roma per Kyoto project will take place in Dublin on the 30th of May. The purpose of this seminar is to facilitate dissemination of the results of the pilot actions from the Roma per Kyoto project and also to present the actions and interventions that the Irish authorities and organisations have taken to reduce their green house Gas emissions. This project is being funded under the EU Life Program. LIFE is the EU’s financial instrument supporting environmental and nature conservation projects throughout the EU.
The aim of the Roma per Kyoto project is to draw up a city plan for the City of Rome to achieve the goals of the Kyoto protocol. The specific aim is to reduce Greenhouse Gas (GHG) emissions to a level 6.5% below the 1990 levels by the year 2012.
To achieve this aim it has been necessary to evaluate the data of GHG emissions in the City of Rome using data from 1990 to 2002. A reference scenario was then built to predict the situation in 2012. This reference scenario can then be used to test and evaluate pilot actions to balance GHG emissions.
2. Target Audience:
The target audience will be Irish local authorities and councils and also interested parties from central government departments. It is also intended that the seminar will attract local environmental groups and industry.
3. Official representation at the event.
The event will be opened by Government Minister, Eamonn Ryan, Minister for Communications, Energy and Natural resources and the Deputy Mayor of Rome.
4. Organization of the event
The conference is to be organised and hosted by the Institute of Technology, Tallaght. The speakers will deal with the issues as addressed by the Roma per Kyoto project and also the actions and interventions planned to address the specific problems with GHG emissions in Ireland. All of the presentations will be held in the IT Tallaght campus. The lunch and coffee breaks will also be on the IT Tallaght campus.
