Welcome
Foreword to JOFIS (Journal of Franco-Irish Studies)
They say that a Research Centre is only as strong as its postgraduate cohort. Since its inception in 2004, the National Centre for Franco-Irish Studies has been fortunate to attract dynamic and productive postgraduates whose output in terms of conference papers and journal articles has been most impressive. The online publication, JOFIS, provides further proof, if such were needed, that the future for Franco-Irish Studies is in safe hands, because it will be driven by people who have the skills and the energy needed to sustain the project into the future.
Call for submissions: 'France and Ireland: cultures and countries en crise' (Deadline for submissions: June 1st 2010 for Autumn 2010 publication)

JOFIS is the brainchild of Jean-Christophe Penet, who in October 2007 organised a highly successful first postgraduate conference in Franco-Irish Studies, Encounters/La Rencontre, out of which the first volume emerged. Having measured the high quality of the papers delivered, Jean-Christophe decided that there should be some means of capturing the event and he came up with the novel idea of an online Journal. The result is an excellent collection of essays by both postgraduates and other more ‘mature’ or seasoned acdemics on a variety of topics charting the coalescence between the two Gallic cousins, France and Ireland. It is a great boost for the National Centre for Franco-Irish Studies to have such a publication and I would like to commend Jean-Christophe and his hard-working editorial board for the serious work that has gone into this initiative.
I would also like to thank the webmaster in IT Tallaght, Mr Paul Butler, as well as the college community as a whole, for supporting what is, I feel, a tremendous departure.
Bravo à tout le monde et bonne continuation !
