Automation Centre
The Process Automation control of the pilot plant provides a fully integrated production facility, which has the industry standard facilities of a pharmaceutical plant such as · PLC, · SCADA and · Batch Management software. Students have access to this control system through 6 work-stations in the plant. The process control systems are developed using Intellution Corp. iFix and iBatch. (http://www.intellution.com/).
The teaching facility also has an 18-seater computer laboratory designed to enable simulation of the production facility. All of the process software from the plant is available in this laboratory and is connected to a stand alone PLC configured to match the pilot plant. Students will be able to use this centre to experience the full process of managing a batch production and to create individual assignments. This centre also has SuperPro Designer available for the development and testing of manufacturing processes. The Department of Science also has available a site wide Laboratory Information Management System from LabVantage Solutions
