Student Synergy Awards

competition logo Who Can Enter?
The competition is open to full-time students.
The business idea must be innovative – either a new product or service.
Applications can come from just one school but final applications must combine students from at least two schools/departments within ITT Dublin.  
(Assistance will be given in matching students across schools/departments where applications have been submitted).

How to Enter?
In the first instance, all we require is a completed application form.

cover Competition entry boxes will be placed at:
Main reception of the college
The Library
The Student Union
Or,
entries can be submitted in person to Niamh O’Keeffe or Onray Brainard, Synergy Centre, ITT Dublin.

Completed applications must be received by Friday 18th March 2011
All applications will be reviewed by a panel and short listing will take place.
For successful applications a more detailed entry, which will take the form of a Business Plan will then be required. A Business Plan template and guidelines will be available here.

Assessment Criteria
Entries will be judged on:
Project Concept and Innovativeness
Is the proposed product/service innovative or an import substitution?
Is it feasible and is there a market for it?

Planning and Projections
Has the market been thoroughly researched and potential competitors identified?
Have the capital investment and operational cash requirements been identified and estimated realistically?

Professionalism of Approach
Have all aspects of the business been fully considered and are the necessary practical skills in place to deliver the concept?

Presentation
Is the submission presented clearly, in an easy-to-read format?


Selection/ Judging
A judging panel will be formed with representatives from ITT Dublin, South Dublin County Enterprise Board, Cruickshank Intellectual Property Attorneys and external experts if necessary/appropriate.

 
The Final
The ITT Dublin final will take place on the 19th of April 2010 and shortlisted finalists will develop a display stand showcasing their business concept. 

They will present their business to a panel of judges who will award the prizes of :
€3,000 1st Prize
€2,000 2nd Prize
€1,000 3rd Prize
€500 Technology Award made at the judges’ discretion.

Winning businesses will go forward to the Enterprise Ireland National Competition where additional substantial prizes of cash and assistance are on offer.
